Dr. Sam Thenya
Dr. Sam Thenya is the Founder and Group CEO of The Nairobi Women’s Hospital, Gender Violence Recovery Center and The Nairobi Women’s Hospital Medical Training College. He’s Passionate about Social entrepreneurship, women’s health and gender violence related issues.
Dr. Thenya chairs the Board of several companies with interests in Real Estate, Tourism Media and Health. He is a Board member of the Kenya Health Federation, Moving the Goalposts(an NGO that uses football to empower young girls and young women), among others
He has received many awards such as Kenya Human Rights Award for exemplary community service, The Order of The Grand Warrior by H.E, President of Republic of Kenya. In 2007, he was appointed by the AG as Chairman of the Medical Committee of the National task force on implementation of Sexual Offences Act. He has addressed many conferences, training’s and seminars in Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda, South Africa, India, United States and France.
Dr. Thenya holds a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB) and Master of Medicine(M.Med) in Obstetrics and Gynecology from the University of Nairobi, Executive Master of Science in Organizational Development (EMOD) from United States of International University (USIU).
In his free time he enjoys running, swimming, lawn tennis, reading and travelling. He is married with two daughters.
Dr. Lawrence S. Ndombi – Chairman
Dr. Lawrence is the Chief Executive & Regional Leader, Business Partner Consultants Limited ( BPC). He is a business leader with over 25 years of experience and a champion of HR. He is an alumni of Alliance High School and holds a Doctor of Business Administration (DBA) in Strategy & Leadership, a Masters of Business Administration (MBA), a Bachelor of Commerce (B.Com) degree and a Post Graduate Diploma in Human Resource Management. He is a Fellow of both the Institute of Human Resource Management (IHRM) K and the Chartered Institute of Personnel & Development (CIPD) , UK . He has a wide experience both locally & internationally and was previously a Vice President, Human Resources, Unilever in Africa.
Dr. Ndombi is the founding member and Program Director of the HIV/AIDS Private Sector Business Council. He helped set up many HIV/AIDS Business Councils in Africa. He has served and is serving on several boards both locally and internationally including Unilever Boards, AMREF Board, Aga Khan University hospital Advisory Board and the Connecticut Children’s Centre.
Ms. Ruth Wanjiru Moko
Ms. Moko is an Analyst with the Abraaj Group. Ruth has five years of collective professional work experience gained from Private Equity (The Abraaj Group) and Risk consulting (KPMG East Africa). She brings knowledge on base of the pyramid impact assessments, financial modeling and valuation, internal auditing, corporate risk assessments and compliance audits. Her regional experience includes East, West and Southern Africa.
She is passionate about environmental conservation and empowerment of women through entrepreneurship. Following her passion, she currently serves as an independent Board Member of Top Third Ventures International, a start-up company focused on providing efficient cook stoves to the rural women of East Africa. The business model is highly scalable and registered under the UNFCCC Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) to earn carbon credits.
Mr. Shakir Merali
Mr. Shakir Merali is a Partner at Aureos Capital. He is an experienced investment professional with over eight years of deal evaluation and portfolio management in both a Trans-Atlantic venture capital fund as well as a leading Emerging Markets private equity fund, coupled with four years of strategy and operational consulting to multinational corporations.
Mr. Merali is skilled in negotiating, structuring and executing investment deals. He has a broad platform of business experience from working with a range of companies.
